Risin’ Star

Written around 1976

He gets up every day at 7:30,
Every morning starts the same:
A quick cup of coffee, a long look at the map,
And a few low calls of her name.

He rolls into anew town every evenin’,
Then his routine starts getting’ old;
Hearin’ bad country music,
And hopin’ he don’t lose it,
While he’s looking’ for his risin’ star.

CHORUS:

She left him somewhere in South Dakota,
Said she was headin’ for L.A.;
And every day it’s the travel,
And at night he’ll unravel in a country bar,
Lookin’ for his risin’ star.

Maybe he’ll hear her latest single,
So he keeps the radio on all the time;
She’ll sing a song of loneliness,
Fillin’ up his emptiness,
Tellin’ him she needs him all the time.

CHORUS

So if you see a man come in tonight,
With weary eyes and sorrow in his face;
Please come and tell me,
‘Cause that’s who I love only,
And I need him to escape from this place.

CHORUS:

I left him somewhere in South Dakota,
Never did make it to L.A.;
And every day it’s the travel,
And at night I’ll unravel in a country bar,
Feelin’ like a fallin’ star.
