A La Leche League administrator doesn’t always have the luxury of working at her desk all day. When errand clusters take you far from home, a little planning and creativity can help you take care of your LLL work away from home.
In your vehicle. While you’re waiting for someone in a parking lot or when you don’t want to disturb a toddler napping the car seat, your parked car can be the perfect office-awa-from-office. Some items that might be helpful to keep or bring with you in your car:
Satchel, tote bag, or briefcase
“Stationery†store crate†with pencils, pens, writing tablets, etc.
Traveling tote bag of LLL reading and correspondence
Library bag with the latest LEAVEN, ALL, or other LLL reading materials
In the waiting room. Bring work to do while you’re waiting for appointments. A traveling tote bag of reading and correspondence can be helpful for this, too.
At the copy shop. Many copy shops have work stations (although they may charge you a rental fee) and large tables and flat areas for spreading out projects. You may be able tot hink of ways you can stretch out your copy shop day with extra projects and work you can do there and then copy it right away, instead of waiting till the next time you go.
At a coffee shop or restaurant. The amenities of fresh coffee, snacks, and meals when we work are very attractive. Arriving early for a lunch date or combining an errand with a nearby coffee place or eatery can give a lift to your outlook.
In the library or bookstore. A library is a natural place for study and paperwork. If you don’t need to watch little ones in the stacks, a library or bookstore is a lovely, quiet place for getting work done. Many libraries have the added advantage of having Internet access. Bookstores often have sitting areas and some have coffee shops attached. They also offer the opportunity to peruse parenting and breastfeeding books.
At a park or other outdoor venue. Getting your car washed? Oil changed? Have some time to kill before picking up your kids from karae? Is there a special outdoor place you could sit and read LEAVEN or catch up on a departmental memo?
Creativity and commitment to getting the work done can be as mobile as you are.
